Holly over at The Pervocracy with an excellent 101 post on Consent Culture. Read the whole thing.

thanx C: if you try to click on things with the left ear, it’s easier.
i’ve only been listening to this on repeat for like, 3 days, that’s acceptable right?
i spent my whole life drivin’ in cars with boys
a lot of people have been kind enough to inform me that my sign is “oversimplified” and “completely misrepresentative of the other side’s argument”
to which i reply;
a. it is a fucking sign, i would like to see one that delves deeply into the debate while retaining it’s brevity and mass appeal. no really, show me. or was “I REGRET MY ABORTION” all you’ve got?
b. not if you think about it, it’s not. “anti-choice is anti-woman” has been compared to saying that pro-choice is anti-children. which, isn’t true. second of all, it isn’t my fault that your side of the argument is so innocently named “pro-life” when the more appropriate term is “anti-choice”. i didn’t say “pro-life” on my sign, that would have been inaccurate. many people who are pro-choice are pro-life. this rally was not celebrating life, it was stifling choice. i chose carefully and put “anti-choice”, because that’s what i meant. and, to be anti-choice means that by law, no one can choose to have an abortion. give me one good reason that that isn’t anti-woman. and it can’t run on the assumption that basically every woman who wants an abortion is just misguided, and innately actually doesn’t want an abortion. yeah, shit just got real.
to recap, tell me how anti-abortion could be anything but anti-choice, and remind me how being anti-choice could be anything but anti-woman?
someone has also brought up that pro-lifers probably see it as saving lives, not being anti-woman. but, does it really matter how you see it if that isn’t the ultimate effect? i’m not saying that pro-lifers are bad or bad people or anything, on the contrary. i’m just angered that the fact that people are unaware of the consequences somehow makes them acceptable or not real.
Earlier in this pregnancy, I filled out my “Initial Health History” form for prenatal and birth care. You know: check the box if you’ve experienced severe headaches, diabetes, all sorts of things. After the usual “Emotional abuse,” “Physical abuse,” “Sexual abuse,” I got to this very interesting item: ”ANY unwanted/undesired physical or sexual contact.”
read the link. this is our culture. read the link, and be upset.
let’s dress like socialites and go out and eat funny little foods
let’s snuggle and be arson detectives on tv all day long
- What you said: I'm pro choice because it's the logical stance on abortion and because women shouldn't be told what they can and cannot do with their bodies.
- What they heard: I suppose I'll burn down a few orphanages before I go over to Satan's place and drink the blood of newborn babies.
Fun fact: in the netherlands, I was frequently openly tormented by small children in the street. They know no mercy.
aw, this is totally awesome! thank you so much C: i’m glad we can work together to stick up for the important stuff!
i wish i had a reddit so i could explain to people that it’s impossible to make a sign that adequately explains your stance. we made a bunch, we had a “pro-health, pro-family, pro-choice” one and a “pro-choice isn’t anti-life” which was my favorite. so much arguing over something so trivial as that! haha.
